Put Your Boat in Front of Fall Buyers

For the right boat, our first choice is an in-water display at Seattle’s September Boats Afloat Show. When show placement is not the right fit, we use the event to generate interest and schedule private appointments at the boat’s regular slip.

Buyers of larger boats often begin shopping in the fall so surveys, repairs, upgrades and commissioning can be completed over the winter for the next cruising season.

Our preferred order: show the boat when appropriate, list it off-site when privacy or logistics favor private appointments, or begin preparing now for a future sale.

The strongest opportunity for concentrated, in-person exposure

Boats Afloat is produced by the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association and is centered heavily on brokerage inventory. Buyers can board, compare and discuss boats with brokers in one location—and we can actively present your boat and take offers during the event.

A well-prepared boat benefits from direct comparison. Condition, layout, workmanship, maintenance and ownership history are easier to understand aboard than through photographs alone.

Rates, electrical service, acceptance, placement and available space are subject to current NYBA rules and deadlines. We will also consider the boat’s readiness, pricing and likely benefit from the show.

Some owners do not want hundreds of attendees aboard. Others have a boat that is better shown privately, or a slip location that makes show relocation unnecessary.

We meet prospective buyers at Boats Afloat, learn what they are actually looking for and schedule off-site appointments during and after the show. Many boat-show conversations lead to sales of boats that were never on the show docks.

How we prepare buyers for a private showing

Detailed video, strong photography and interactive tours help serious prospects understand a boat before committing to an appointment aboard.

If you are still a few years from selling, we should meet aboard now. Annual pre-listing reviews can help prioritize maintenance, repairs, records and presentation decisions that protect the boat’s condition, value and future desirability.

Sometimes the most valuable advice is recommending that an owner not spend money on an addition the next buyer is unlikely to value. The goal is better ownership decisions—not unnecessary projects.
